Journey With Cookbooks #27

I have been craving corn dogs. Must be a pregnancy thing. Because it’s usually my husband who is. But I decided to try making them myself.

I am now someone who will attempt to make it myself first. It’s cheaper!

A recipe from Pinterest.

Watching food videos with my daughter before bedtime has some perks. Even though it is evil to have to see delicious food before sleeping.

But first I had to gather all the ingredients…

Also the hubby wanted fries to go along with the dinner. Since I was already going to fry the corn dogs it wasn’t too much extra work.

I boil the fries 7min before starting the frying process. It gives them that soft inside and crunchy shell. 😍
The normal pot was for boiling. Big Red is my new best frying friend!! 😎

Pat the hotdogs dry and skewer them! Death to the hotdogs!! Mwahahahahahaha!!

I just noticed my socks…they match….! The weather is going to change. 😳

I double fry the fries. First round is for 6min. I did all the groups of fries. Since I use the bare minimum oil I have to do several rounds.

Let’s start the corn dogs!!

Dip dip dip.
Oh so cute and chubby!!! Hopefully they taste good. The baking powder is what makes them fluff up.

I had to add about 1 cup of oil…it seemed so wasteful…I think the most I used nowadays is 1/3 of a cup.

The recipe said I could do up to 3 at a time, but since it’s my first time; I decided to do 1.

Yummy! The husband did the taste test… he said it was miserable as he gobbled it down. 😏

Even I got input from the opinionated daughter…

She approved!!

Next was another round of fries. Then my own opinion…

I like the mixture of ketchup and mustard…I’m all alone in my small family…

Looks like Photo: maybe 8. The pictures make theirs look picture perfect. Mine were imperfect, but the taste was…

Taste: 10! At first… Then after one corn dog, my husband and I discovered they are extremely greasy. We don’t really eat super greasy foods anymore. They are too heavy. My fries are probably our limit. I’ll be trying an air frying recipe next time.

Easiness: 10! It was a super easy recipe. I’m bummed that I won’t be making it again, but if your stomach is not as sensitive; this is a perfect recipe. Hopefully the air fryer recipe is just as easy.

I’m currently munching on carrots to help settle my stomach. 😞

Overall: It was delicious as we ate it! Just the aftermath is hitting us. Elizabeth liked it though. Even though she probably would have filled herself up on carrots and ranch if we let her. Haha 😂

Enjoy your day!

Art Through The Years

Well I had planned to draw several, but the smell of my markers was bothering vme. So I only got one done.

2011

I had planned to draw all my Disney characters on one page. Still the plan, but will take time.

2021

It’s similar but I think I like my 2011 one better. Don’t know why; maybe the expression is better.

But that all for this post. I’m exhausted today.

I tossed and turned most of the night. I hear a nap in my future.

Have a relaxing Monday!

Real Food

Spices,

And smells.

Butter,

And crisp.

Veggies,

And sizzle.

Oh I’ve missed,

That delicious taste.

Pretty self explanatory. I cooked our first real meal. It’s been almost two weeks. We’ve been rocking sandwiches. Which I never thought I would get tired of sandwiches. But we did. Maybe except the baby.

But last night was delicious. And since we’ve been eating sandwiches, my serving size has dropped. I guess sandwiches had a good effect.

Have a wonderful Friday. May it be filled with good food!!

Is This Happy?

I’ve had a strange 10hrs.

An exciting, crazy, strange,

24 hours.

I went to bed at a reasonable hour.

Not too early,

Not too late.

I woke up happy at 3:28.

I’m drifting back to sleep,

Right now;

Confused, ecstatic, and pleased.

Am I happy?

Is this real?

We will see how I feel,

In another…now 3 hours.

If the happiness continues,

Or if destruction to all,

Is coming.

Not quite sure. Just woke up. And honestly as I was drifting back to sleep I started this poem. And instead of ignoring it I decided to jot it down. It is currently 4:01am and I am awake happy.

Confused and excited are perfect descriptions for how I am feeling. Maybe it’s because of all the Dr. Seuss books read at story time yesterday.

We will see in the next three hours. Whether I am a beautiful butterfly when I wake up…or a scary dragon will emerge from bed.

Have a very confusing Friday!

I was originally going to post this on Friday. But since my sleeping schedule was all topsy-turvy I am now posting this poem on Saturday.

So have a nice slumbering Saturday!

Now I Can Melt.

The pictures are done.

Which means we had to clean our house from top to bottom; from 10am-4:30pm.

I am pooped. I am writing this as I lay in bed. But I still wanted to post something. Because I plan on sleeping well pass 9:00am.

I finished that card I was drawing.

Here is the starting point. Only markers and color pencils.

Not too bad. Just now seeing it like this again it seems warmer.

Here is the first hour of additional paint.

Gives it some definition.

I love adding paint. It just gives it depth.

Here is the final 30min. I do all the paint with a sample from Home Depot and tooth picks.

Hopefully soon this will be a reality. I am ready for colder temperatures.

Finally Saturday!! Enjoy the weekend!

Poetry From The Past #2

This is the second poem in my past poetry collection.

Robots vs. Ninjas

Robots

Make that

Squeaky noise.

Like little boys

Fighting

For toys.

Ninjas are silent

And quite

Violent

In dark

Shapeless ways.

Robots vs. Ninjas

Very short battle.

Robots would run

Like cattle.

While the ninjas

Sit in the saddle.

Do not pick

The tin man.

Fly

Like the ninja.

Cuz’

You won’t die.

Well… I have no words. But it’s not too bad. I don’t know why I didn’t use any punctuation back then. But I like the idea behind this poem.

It’s just strange because it is not at all like my normal style. Maybe this one was inspired with my little brother.

There is no way of knowing.

I think the drawing explains it all! 🤓

Enjoy your Saturday! My baby seems to be over the worst!!

The end is near!

Building Again!

We decided to build the garage/ shed at the end of our carport. We always seem to do big projects before winter comes. Last time it was the concrete work and the carport installation.

The garage is 8ft x 10ft x 10ft. As the hubby was framing it, I was inside eating lunch with the baby. She was being a troublemaker.

Our little helper wanted to help daddy move the wood.

It’s sweet when little kids want to help, but they make it more difficult. But as I’ve been told. It’s good to start them young; because then they will grow up helping.

Oh yes dinner…the hubby wanted to smoke some meat!

It is going to be torture to smell this all day as we work.

Not too bad…

I really didn’t help for this part. The hubby had his drawn plans, and just did his own thing. I just watched the baby. I felt really useless.

Can it be dinner time now? Nope. Still about 3 hrs to go.

I helped with the rafters. I handed them up to him, and he did all the hard stuff. I was pretty much just a pair of helping hands. Also maybe the mascot.

Meet got done around 5:30pm, but it still had to sit 30min before we could devour it! But back to the project…It gets dark around 6:45pm now. Because winter is coming.

The sweet thing decided to scout out daddy’s creation.

Sine she started dancing. I believe she approves.

I am sorry…I have no other pictures of the meat. I was too hungry to remember. But I can tell you…it was delicious!!

Day 2

Adding the black tar paper made the space feel bigger! Especially not in the sunshine.

This is going to make a huge improvement; also add value.

The overhang.

The space between the shed and garage is about 5ft. So with both overhang there is about 3ft of empty. We might stack wood here; under the garage overhang.

The roof!

I feel like putting the roof on was where I was most helpful!! The hubby was on the roof. I had to grab a sheet of plywood and hand it up to the hubby. I also had to do this process for the metal paneling. I felt so helpful! And the hubby said I made it a lot easier. Since he didn’t have to go up and down constantly. 😎

Having the roof down and some of the plywood siding done makes it look complete!

Finished!!

So seriously we built a garage , 10 x 8 x 10!, in less than 24hrs. 😎 I feel quite accomplished. But I also have great pride in my hubby!! He did amazing!

Now you shouldn’t be surprised, but we were able to fill the entirety of the garage and there is no more space. Haha! But after I reorganize it, and the hubby makes the shelf and his work table, it will look better.

Finally after a few years we actually have some storage space/ shop on our property!

Have a productive Wednesday. With my back still a little tweaked i will be having a safe, cold Wednesday. ❄️

Poetry From The Past

Unpacking leads to finding things from your past. I found a treasure… my creative writing/ poetry binder from over ten years ago. I was super creative in 2010. I had more free time in the past.

But here is the first poem I read.

Whom?

Whom…

Do I chase?

Down

The far

Pool.

Me.

Myself.

The girl

Doing it

Perfect

And precise.

She starts out

Ahead.

But I beat her

Dead.

That girl

Who begins

And I end.

This poem cracks me up! I wrote it October 08, 2010. I wonder who my competitor was; that I decided to write a poem based on them. I have no idea…

As I wrote that, I thought it could be me. I used to have that mindset. That I was the best and racing myself was the only opponent better than me. Oh the confidence…

I’m enjoying reading things from my past. I am now remembering that I went through a phase of writing sad poetry. Hopefully reading my old poetry will help spark up my old creativity once again. I’ve been in somewhat of a rut lately.

Maybe due to the fact that the hubby and I built a garage/ shed in less than 24 hours these last two days. I was the pair of helping hands to my master builder husband.

Maybe I’ll share that experience next blog.

But anyways…enjoy the weekend! Party time!! For all you young people or people young at heart! Instead, I will be enjoying time at home. It’s supposed to rain today! A nice Saturday at home. Just what I need! 🌧

I blocked my name for privacy.

So tired…

Yesterday I moved non stop from twelve o’clock in the afternoon to eight forty-five at night. My body is hurting.

The hubby has been saying his stress eye has been acting up, because the house has been clustered with bins. I think he mild claustrophobic side was being pressured. So I did the deed…

I cleaned. And cleaned. And cleaned. I unpacked almost all of the bins that filled the house. We brought about… fourteen bins; now we only have six left.

We have a huge stack of empty bins outside our back door.

But which means I’m exhausted. And I wrote this post last night as I waited for my baby to fall asleep.

So please have a restful and chill Wednesday. I will try as well. ❤️

Journey With Cookbooks #26

I’ve been on vacation. Blog posts were put on the back burner to fully enjoy my time off.

But…Another Pinterest recipe with a repetitive recipe. Onion rings and orange chicken.

Since I was already going to be frying the chicken, I decided to make some onion rings. The hubby has been craving onion rings for a while now.

The picture for the recipe on Pinterest.

I had high hopes for them. Since I’m picky about onion rings too.

The recipe called for 2-3 onions.

I didn’t realize how much that would make…I cut up way too many. And I used sweet onions. It’s the bag that was opened in the cabinet.

Flour mixture
Egg and milk mixture.
Panko crumb mixture.

Why does it always want to auto correct panko to Pablo…very annoying.

So many things.

Yes. There is chocolate cake there too. The hubby wanted something chocolate at work the other day so I made some cake.

The rice has begun.

Don’t forget that the real dinner is orange chicken…

The chicken is cubed.

That’s only three chicken breast. I decided to do three so that there would be leftovers for the hubby’s next shifts.

I don’t know if I have stated this before…

But my sister gave me this thermometer for my birthday. This is my forever one!

The chicken has been tossed once.

The chicken will have to wait until the onion rings are done. I guess the onion rings are more of an appetizer to the orange chicken. Weird mix…

See this cutting board?

I turned to do something quickly. As I turned back to the cutting board I saw my baby climbing up towards it! I yelled for the hubby, and baby got startled and ran away. Better than her mess with raw chicken.

This is already: dip onions in flour mixture, smother in egg mixture, another flour dusting, and now the second dipping of egg mixture.

A rather sticky process but it is looking delicious!

Now the panko coating.
The frying.

The oil was heated to 350. It only took about 2min to completely cook the onion rings. They came out golden brown and crispy.

I had called the hubby that the first batch was done…

He devoured most of these onion rings. Haha! He said I’ve ruined another food for him. He will no longer be able to eat onion rings out. Mwahahahaha!

Before the last two rounds are done…these lonely two onion rings are left.

The hubby did feed my a couple bites as he eat the onion rings. I’m amazed…He shared his food. Haha

Chicken time!
The chicken takes more time so I have moments to eat the onion rings.

I don’t think I am going to be hungry for the orange chicken…

Oh so crispy.

The oil was already filled with burnt panko crumbs from the onion rings. So occasionally as I pulled the chicken out I would get some burnt crumbs. Just some extra flavor!

About half my normal amount of orange chicken.

I wish onion rings could be a meal!

The green beans must have been freezer burnt. None of us ate our greens. They were nasty.

Dishes…
Dishes…
More dishes.

It seemed never ending. But I decided to wait until after dinner to do the dishes. The hubby and baby would go watch a movie; while I do the dishes and listen to my book.

But first cake. Cake is always comes first. Yummy!!

Look like photo: 10! They look identical to the picture. Crispy golden brown!

Taste: 10! The onion rings are awesome!! If I could rate it 1,000 I would!!!

Easiness: 9! I think because of the stickiness it is more difficult than fries, but the time quantity is way shorter than fries.

Overall… a definite yes to the recipe! Will try again soon. Maybe tomorrow! Also the cake gets a 10!
